Chicago’s favorite typewriter poet

I am a (type)writer. I have typewritten more than 10,000 spontaneous poems. In addition to poetry, I peddle surprise and delight. My offering is a spontaneous encounter and an intimate, utterly unique artistic experience. Give me a topic and I’ll give you a poem, and a private reading besides.

My patrons are my muses; together we co-create a moment suspended in time. You may have seen me in action on NBC 5’s Chicago Today or on WBBM.

About the artist—and other projects

My name is Kro (they/them), and I have been writing for 20 years. I own 16 typewriters and counting. I have an MA in Linguistics and an MFA in Creative Writing. I got my start typing poems on the streets, and from there, poetry bloomed into my full-time job.

My poetry chapbook, Tales From the Abandoned Greenhouse (2024), is my newest work, available through Bottlecap Press. I am also the author of Prayer Wheel (2022), an art/essay/poetry/activity book about the turning of the seasons, Buddhism, and Druidry.

You can learn more about me here.

Kro sits behind a large banner that says Come Get A Poem. It is a bright summer day and they are writing poetry at West Loop Art Fest. Their typewriter is a blue Brother Charger 11.
